Verify suspicious calls with official, reliable sources to avoid falling for scams

KUCHING, Feb 23: Seek advice from friends, family, or relevant departments on suspicious calls to determine whether the call is genuine or a scam.

According to a press statement, the Women’s Bureau of Kampung Apar in Bau held a scammer awareness programme yesterday at the Kampung Apar Community Hall in an effort to combat online scams.

The event, which drew 100 people, was officiated at by CIMB Bank Serian branch manager Steve Richard Hamit and ASNB Kuching branch zone manager Norashikin.

“Online fraud is becoming more common, with the syndicate making a variety of enticing promises. This irresponsible group employs a variety of methods and tactics to drain the victim’s funds until they are depleted,” said Steve through a press statement.

He advised the general public to be wary of any phone call they receive in order to avoid falling victim to online scams.

“If you receive a suspicious call, consult with friends, family, or the relevant department to determine whether the call is genuine or a scam,” he added.

The programme was also attended by former village head Biker Gadong, KRT Apar/Tabong representative Craos Sipie, and Apar Women’s Bureau chairperson Christina Sui. — DayakDaily
