Vehicle spare parts workshop sparks new cluster in Kuching with 9 Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, June 25: A vehicle spare parts workshop in Jalan Renggas, Kuching is the source of a new workplace cluster, with nine Covid-19 cases.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today mentioned that the Jalan Renggas Cluster involved the workshop workers.

“A total of 26 individuals have been screened whereby nine people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, 11 tested negative and six are awaiting test results,” the Committee said.

All positive cases from the cluster were admitted to Kuching Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.

With the addition of the cluster, there are 20 active clusters in Kuching at present.

Apart from the Jalan Renggas Cluster, SDMC today also announced another workplace cluster in Bintulu involving a workers’ quarters of an engineering company located at Jalan Kidurong, Kidurong Industrial Area, Tatau.

At the same time, SDMC announced the end of four clusters namely, Jalan Limbang Cluster and Jalan Lilin Cluster in Miri as well as Bako Hilir Cluster and Kampung Semerah Padi Fasa 1 Cluster in Kuching.

At present, there are 94 active clusters in the State with 16 of them recording an increase of 237 new positive cases. — DayakDaily
