SIBU, Aug 6: A woman and her daughter lost a total of RM2,520 after they were cheated into believing that they have won a Big Pay prize.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said on August 5, a 53-year-old vegetable seller was at home when someone contacted her daughter, telling her that she had won RM1,000 Big Pay price.

“The suspect told her that in order for her to claim the prize money, she had to provide them with her debit card number. However after giving him the details, the suspect said her debit card was a new one and that the prize could not be processed,” he added.

The girl then gave the suspect the two debit card numbers of the complainant so she could claim the prize.

ACP Stanley said at about 4pm on the same day, the complainant checked on her two accounts and also that of her daughter’s.

She was shocked to discover that a total of RM2,520 had been transferred to a Big Pay account of another person.

She realised that they had been conned by the suspect.

“The victims had been tricked to furnish their bank account details to claim for a nonexistent prize money,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.-DayakDaily
