MIRI, Sept 7: A 22-year-old university student sustained a waist injury after falling onto a rock while hiking in Batu Niah National Park this afternoon.
According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the emergency call was received at 3.47pm.
A team of five firefighters from Batu Niah Fire Station (BBP Batu Niah), led by PBK II Awang Azdwan, was dispatched to the scene.
Bomba reported that the victim was unable to move due to the injury.
She was located about 1.6km from the riverbank and on a slope estimated at 50 feet from the river’s edge.
A nurse from the Ministry of Health (KKM) was already with the victim and requested firefighters’ assistance to stabilise her. Bomba said the victim was reported to be in stable condition.
Firefighters then carried her on a stretcher to the riverbank, where she was transported by a Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) boat and later handed over to Batu Niah Clinic for further treatment.
Also involved in the operation were four police personnel and five SFC staff. — DayakDaily
