KUCHING, Dec 11: Sarawak is strengthening its position as a regional leader in the green economy, with an estimated USD7 billion (about RM20 billion) in potential investments expected to flow into the State over the next decade through strategic collaborations with international industry players.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today witnessed the signing of seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS), China Jiangsu International Economic Technology Cooperation Group Ltd (CJI), and seven major companies from China that expressed their commitment to participate in the development of the Kuching Low Carbon Hub (KLCH).
“Today, seven MoUs were signed between various companies in the green economy sector. Over the next 10 years, it is projected to bring in potential investments worth USD7 billion, equivalent to approximately RM20 billion.
“Investments of this magnitude will create many new job opportunities, especially highly skilled jobs, in line with our efforts to increase household income,” he said, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
In addition, he said the injection of USD7 billion in investment into the State economy would also contribute to Sarawak’s economic expansion, aligning with the State’s target of achieving a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of RM282 billion by 2030.
He said this during a press conference after witnessing the signing of the Framework Agreement between PETROS and CJI before witnessing the signing of seven MoUs between PETROS, CJI and seven investment companies from China at the CJI Headquarters earlier today.
“With this investment, plus other investments that are currently and will be entering Sarawak, I am confident that we can achieve that target,” the Premier added.
Also present at the ceremony were Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utilities (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS) Datuk Ibrahim Baki, PETROS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bugo, CJI chairman Song Qinbo, PETROS group chief executive officer Dato Janin Girie and CJI president Zhu Xingbao. – DayakDaily
