KUCHING, July 9: Upwell Superstore has collaborated with the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth Central in the donation of 300 food baskets to the community in need.

SUPP Youth secretary-general Milton Foo said the food baskets prepared by the Upwell Superstore outlet at Jalan Song here consist of rice, biscuits, instants noodles, vegetables and fruits.

He said the food baskets would be distributed by a team of volunteers to the families in need especially those who had lost their jobs and sources of income due to the Covid-19 pandemic, including residents living in dilapidated wooden houses in squatter areas of Pending.

Foo applauded Upwell Superstore for its commitment in fulfilling the corporate social responsibility (CSR) and practicing the noble spirit of “taken from the community and giving back to the community”.

Other than Upwell Superstore, he said many other individuals and private firms have also shown their support in the endeavour to share their love and care to society.

“In this very moment of life with difficulties, it is good to see that people from all walks of life and various economic sectors have approached me to express their willingness to lend a hand and to contribute.

“This is what we called the ‘truly Sarawakian spirit’ in helping one another regardless of colour, race and religious beliefs.

“We will ultimately win in our fight against Covid-19 as long as we stay united and resolute,” he said during the food basket handover from Upwell Superstore manager Voon Bu Sen today.
