KUCHING, April 28: The first phase of upgrading works along Batu Kawa Road to Datuk Chong Kiun Kong bridge to the Matang traffic light junction is expected to be completed by the end of May.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), in a media release today, emphasised that the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak had completed resurfacing gravel and the first layer of tar sealing works.
It added that work for the second layer of tar-sealing is expected to be done by the beginning of May.
SUPP also explained that there had been some delays on the works due to workers linked to positive Covid-19 cases having been quarantined as well as the debris cleaning schedule being affected as Trienekens’ workers were also in a similar situation.
The completed upgrading works that cost RM1.5 million is only part of the total RM4 million project for the entire stretch of Batu Kawa Road which will include road surface upgrades and installation of a road centre steel barrier.
Batu Kawa assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian had fought for part of the allocation from the Federal Works Ministry.
The authority thus urged motorists to be extra cautious while using the roads as works are still in progress. — DayakDaily
