KUCHING, Feb 24: Upgrading and maintenance work at the busy intersection of Jalan Liu Shan Bang and 7th Mile in Kota Sentosa are underway following the approval of government funding recently.

The area was no stranger to terrible congestion as residents and the business community of Kota Sentosa had frequently complained of the poor condition of the road intersection with traffic lights.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) chief Wilfred Yap highlighted that the matter was brought up to the attention of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Engineering Department and the government funding for the upgrading and maintenance works which were recently approved.

“We are very grateful to MPP and their contractor for agreeing to the request to carry out the upgrading and maintenance works at night due to the heavy traffic during the day at this intersection and to prevent traffic jams and minimise inconvenience to the public,” he said in a statement today.

Yap admitted that he together with Penghulu Lai Boon Khee, Kapitan Lee Tho Fung and SUPP 7th Mile Sub-branch members had been frequently approached by residents and the business community on the upgrading and road maintenance issues during their regular “turun padang” activity to the area.

Together with community leaders, he pledged to continue serving as the eyes and ears of the community living in Kota Sentosa to ensure that the infrastructure facilities in the area were maintained properly for the benefit of the community.

Yap, who is also Kota Sentosa Branch chairman, assured that he will also continue to highlight and try to resolve issues of public interest affecting the public.
