KUCHING, March 23: The Sarawak government has approved allocations totalling RM160 million under People’s Project (Project Rakyat) to upgrade and improve facilities at schools throughout the region.
Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said the work is expected to be completed in two years.
Among the projects which have been approved are for Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Segan Bintulu, SK Maludam Betong, SK Pulo Kuching, SK Penasu Daro and SK Merpati Jepang.
Harden said the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) is responsible as a client agency for all school development projects under the Sarawak government.
“As a client agency, our ministry works closely with the technical agencies such as the Public Works Department (JKR), Land and Survey Department and Local Authorities from the pre-construction stage onwards in project planning, designing, site identification, facilitating approval application matters and so on up to the construction stage,” he said.
Harden said this at the handing over ceremony of the new administrative block and the upgraded academic block, for SK Merpati Jepang, as reported by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) yesterday.
The handover ceremony was officiated at by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Harden was representing the Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
“We are ready to coordinate, find solutions for any problems faced by the project and closely monitor the progress of the project.
“This is to ensure that the project is completed according to schedule and finally handed over to the Sarawak State Education Department, which is the end user in perfect condition and as promised,” he said.
Also present were Satok assemblyman Dato Ibrahim Baki, Advisor at the Sarawak Premier’s Office (Education) Datuk Amar Micheal Manyin Jawong, President of the Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) of SK Merpati Japang Dato Dr Zaiedi Suhaili, Director of JKR Sarawak Richard Tajan, Permanent Secretary of MEITD, Azmi Bujang and Headmaster of SK Merpati Japang, Hasim Seli. — DayakDaily
