KUCHING, Aug 27: Residents from Kampung Pinang Jawa and those nearby the vicinity can now sigh with relief as the present Maternity and Child Health Clinic or ‘Klinik Kesihatan Ibu dan Kanak-kanak’ (KKIK) has been upgraded.

The clinic, located behind Gita police station, underwent some renovation in Aug 2019 and was completed in December.

Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the RM100,000 upgrading project under Rural Transformation (RTP) was completed within three months and Kuching North City Council (DBKU) was the implementing agency while Syarikat Anniq Berjaya was the contractor.

Among the scope for the clinic were new consultation and treatment rooms, store room, filing room, manhole discharge and repainting of the whole building.

“The issue of health care is important thus we need to ensure that our facilities are comfortable for patients. Upon inspecting this newly renovated clinic, the facilities, width of the waiting area and the treatment rooms for patients, I am satisfied. Mothers or parents will no longer need to worry about the discomfort environment, unlike previously.

“This clinic will definitely benefit mothers and children, and ease their worries regarding their child’s health care,” Fazzrudin told reporters after a visit this morning.

Previously, the building was a half community library on the ground floor, while the upper floor served as a clinic.

He pointed out that the clinic was operating at its full capacity before this and the condition was not conductive for health care workers and patients.

Fazzrudin added that he had also topped up another RM120,000 for the clinic to undergo further renovation.

Meanwhile, he also visited the newly built surau Darul Rahman at Jalan Mawar in Kampung Gita Tengah.

“Also under RTP, implemented by DBKU and built by Scilca Sdn Bhd, the RM721,000 surau sitting on a 1,069 sq metre land was completed on Feb 25 this year.

“The surau can accommodate about 198 people and it comes with facilities for the handicapped (OKU) as well,” Fazzrudin said.-DayakDaily
