KUCHING, May 12: The University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) has recorded the highest number of student enrolment under Sarawak’s Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES), with 2,020 students benefiting as of March 31, 2026.
According to Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, a total of 4,694 students have benefited from the FTES since its implementation, across four State-linked higher education institutions.
“The second highest enrolment was recorded at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus with 1,959 students, followed by Curtin University Malaysia with 543 students and i-CATS University College with 172 students,” he said.
He said this when replying to Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad during the question-and-answer session at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.
In addition, he said a total of 39,839 Sarawak students were pursuing higher education at public universities nationwide as of February 2026, at foundation, diploma and degree levels.
The FTES currently offers 64 courses, which are periodically reviewed in line with Sarawak’s evolving industry requirements. — DayakDaily
