KUCHING, Sept 14: More than 100 people from various backgrounds in Satok took part in two programmes organised in conjunction with the upcoming Malaysia Day celebration—the Larian Muda Hashim 2025 and the Merdeka Fun Walk—today.

According to a statement, Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS), Dato Ibrahim Baki, said the two programmes celebrate unity and prosperity in Sarawak and Malaysia ahead of the national celebration.

“These programmes highlight Malaysia’s values where on Malaysia Day, not only do we reflect on the sacrifices made by those before us (in forming Malaysia), but also the peace and prosperity that we enjoy.

“I am confident that programmes such as the fun walk for Malaysia Day are also organised throughout Sarawak, whereby as we walk, we also proudly wave the Malaysia flag,” he said after officiating at the two programmes today.

The Larian Muda Hashim 2025 comprised two categories – 5km for men and 3km for women with the route starting from Rumah Warisan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abang Haji Ahmad Urai, Jalan Muda Hashim, passing Jalan Kulas, Jalan Haji Taha, Jalan Ajibah Abol, Jalan Tanjung Selatan, Jalan Muhibbah, and Jalan Dagok in Satok.

Meanwhile, the Merdeka Fun Walk started from Dewan Pertubuhan Anak Seni Bandarsah, Kampung Bandarsah, with a route of about 3km, passing Jalan Muda Hashim, Jalan Kulas, Jalan Haji Taha, and Jalan Ajibah Abol.

On the reception of the two programmes, Ibrahim, who is Satok assemblyman, noted that people of all ages and races took part in them.

“This is the beauty of Satok and Sarawak in general; I hope that all Sarawakians will reflect on and appreciate the meaning of Malaysia Day, where we are one people, one country,” he said. — DayakDaily
