BINTULU, Sept 29: The Kajang community has been called to prioritise unity and avoid divisions among its ethnic groups so it can focus on Belaga’s development.
Speaking during the Sarawak Kajang Ethnic Community Association (PKEKS) Charity Dinner here on Saturday (Sept 26), Temenggong Ajang Sirek said stronger unity among the Kajang ethnic groups would enable the community to play a greater role in the development and leadership of Belaga.
“The Kajang community must stay united. If our unity is truly strong, we will have the strength to play a greater role in the development of Belaga,” he said in a press handout made available to DayakDaily.
He also called on the younger generation to continue efforts to develop the community while safeguarding the identity and heritage of the Kajang people.
Similarly, Deputy Minister of Digital Malaysia and Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong encouraged Kajang youth to prioritise education, self-development, and skills, while striving for success in their respective fields.
At the same time, he said the younger generation’s success should not be solely for the benefit of individuals and their families but should also translate into contributions back to the community.
Ugak, also the patron of PKEKS, urged the Kajang community to strengthen unity and solidarity to ensure its identity, culture, and future are preserved.
He also stressed that unity was the main strength that would enable the Kajang community to move forward together.
The charity dinner raised about RM50,000 through ticket sales, table purchases, and contributions from various parties, and recognised nine Kajang figures as PKEKS Icons for their achievements and contributions in two main categories: academic excellence and leadership.
It served not only as a platform to raise funds, but also as an avenue to strengthen ties, unity and cooperation within the Kajang community.
PKEKS hopes the spirit generated through the event can be sustained through various programmes in education, culture, youth development, and socio-economic development for the benefit of future generations of the Kajang community. — DayakDaily
