KUCHING, Dec 8: The Sarawak government has increased the allocation for the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) by RM10 million for the year 2026, bringing its total allocation to RM120 million.

In a TVS news report, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the increase aims to support the development of houses of worship and mission schools in the State, including the provision of educational facilities for the younger generation.

“(Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas) whispered to me, asking that since we have sufficient financial provisions, could we increase the allocation for 2026? So, I said yes, we’ll add another RM10 million,” he said during the Unifor Appreciation Ceremony 2025 in Kuching on Sunday (Dec 7).

Abang Johari said that since its establishment in 2017, Unifor has consistently received annual funding to support the construction and repair of houses of worship of various religions across Sarawak.

He added that the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring interfaith harmony is not mere rhetoric but is demonstrated through the implementation of inclusive and comprehensive initiatives.

“Unifor is the only permanent agency of its kind in Malaysia, reflecting the GPS government’s deep commitment to inclusivity, fairness, and mutual respect,” he said. — DayakDaily
