KUCHING, July 11: The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) under the Department of the Premier of Sarawak is organising a special thanksgiving prayer ceremony in conjunction with the 60 years of Sarawak’s Independence Celebration.
In a press statement issued today, the deputy minister in charge of the ceremony, Datuk Liwan Lagang, said the event will commence at 9am on July 21 at a local hotel where the representatives of six religions will gather to recite their respective prayers.
He added that the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has been invited to officiate at the ceremony.
“In the true spirit of the ‘Segulai Sejalai’ (Together in Unity) concept, the ceremony will start with the Baha’i prayer to be followed by the Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, Sikh, and Tao prayers focusing on the theme ‘Prosperity, Peace, Political Stability, Unity and Social Inclusivity blessings upon Sarawak’,” he said.
Liwan explained that monthly thanksgiving prayer sessions were rotated among the six religions since early January this year, held in their respective houses of worship.
“Each religion was assigned with a special theme in conjunction with our 60 years of Sarawak Independence Celebration as a kick-start to the countdown of this special thanksgiving ceremony,” he said.
Members of the public are encouraged to join and participate in this event to be broadcast live on TVS’ Facebook and YouTube channels and Astro Channel 122, and on Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (Ukas) Facebook and YouTube channels.
More than 700 guests are to be invited, comprising ministers and deputy ministers, heads of government departments, religious institutions of various faiths, and community leaders. — DayakDaily
