KUCHING, Sept 20: The RM73 million Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) Complex, now 99.37 per cent complete, is expected to receive its Occupation Permit (OP) this month, with full occupancy targeted for 2025 following renovation works.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed that the project is nearing physical completion, with only minor delays due to earlier issues that have since been resolved.

“Final fittings and housekeeping are all that remain, and we are confident the OP will be issued by September,” he told reporters during his visit to the complex at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee today.

He acknowledged that the committee overseeing the project was initially concerned due to their lack of experience with such a large-scale development but now expressed satisfaction with the progress made.

Situated on a three-acre site, construction of the Unifor Complex began in 2021. It will be a landmark facility designed to foster unity among Sarawak’s religious communities, celebrate their faith, and engage in various income-generating activities.

Key features of the 10-storey complex include a green building design, a nine-storey office tower, a conference hall with a capacity for 1,000 people (expandable to 1,200), and 285 parking lots.

With the building completion on target, Uggah highlighted that renovation works for the Unifor Office and other charitable trust offices within the complex would commence soon.

“This means the complex will be occupied by the first quarter of 2025,” he said.

As chairman of Unifor, Uggah highlighted that the complex will stand as a symbol of Sarawak’s inclusive policy under the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“This project is a source of pride for Sarawak. Unifor remains committed to uniting the region’s diverse communities as we work towards becoming an advanced, high-income region by 2030,” he emphasised.

He stressed that unity is key to achieving sustainable progress and reaffirmed Unifor’s dedication to contributing towards Sarawak’s 2030 vision. — DayakDaily
