JULAU, Feb 16: Police have arrested four men for allegedly threatening Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng over RM5 ang pow (red packers).

The suspects, aged 32 to 53, were arrested at 6pm on Monday (Feb 12) following a police report lodged by Sng.

Julau district police chief Dep Supt Andam Sulin said that according to the police report, the suspects were dissatisfied after receiving the angpow containing RM5 and provoked the complainant’s workers.

The suspects have been remanded for three days for an investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which can lead to a prison sentence of up to two years or with a fine or both if convicted.

Andam stressed that the police will not tolerate any form of criminal violence, especially in the Julau and Pakan districts.

On Feb 15, Sng called upon the relevant authorities to curb alleged gangsterism in Julau before it escalated into a bigger social issue.

In a Facebook post that day, Sng disclosed that while visiting the Chinese community in conjunction with Chinese New Year in Julau, he encountered some local gangsters looking to cause trouble. — DayakDaily
