MIRI, March 19: A World War II bomb measuring 150cm in diameter and 150cm in length was discovered during construction work along Jalan Pantai here yesterday morning.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said a 41-year-old heavy machinery operator stumbled upon the bomb during excavation works at the site at about 8.20am.

He, however, did not reveal how deep underground was the explosive device found.

A team of bomb specialists was mobilised to the site, not far from SMK Lutong, when the alarm was raised.

Lim said the team successfully defused the bomb at about 7pm at KM17 Miri-Bintulu Road.
