Unemployed man with 2 previous convictions faces more jail term for drugs

KUCHING, Nov 27: An unemployed man with two previous convictions of administering dangerous drugs pleaded guilty to five counts of drug-related charges here today

Lai Ah Kwang, 48, was pleaded guilty to four charges at the Magistrate’s Court and one charge in the Sessions Court.


He was sentenced to a total imprisonment of seven years and one month, with a total fine of RM5,000.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar sentenced the accused to an imprisonment of six months for possession of 1.32 grammes of Cannabis without authorisation in a room of a house in Sungai Apong Baru, at about 2 pm, on October 24, 2016.

He wad charged under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine RM20,000 or imprisonment not exceeding five years or both, upon conviction.

The accused was also found to have consumed Methamphetamine in the Kuching Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NICD) at about 2.30 pm on October 24, 2016.

He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act, which carries a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years and undergo supervision between two years and three years.

Mohd Syukri sentenced him to a fine of RM2,000 in default to three months imprisonment and to undergo supervision for two years.

The accused was also charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act for administering Methamphetamine and Amphetamine at about 1.40 am on July 21, 2018.

He was sentenced to a fine of RM3,000 in default to four months imprisonment and to undergo supervision for two years.

He was also charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act for possessing 9.24 grams of Methamphetamine in a room of a house in Jalan Sungai Apong Baru, at about 12.45am on July 21, 2018.

The court sentenced him to an imprisonment of seven months.

At the Sessions Court, Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd Yusoff sentenced him to an imprisonment of six years and two strokes of the rotan for administering Methamphetamine and Amphetamine, whereby at the same time with two previous convictions in Kuching NCID, at about 4.15pm on February 22, 2019.

He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39(C)(1)(b) of the same Act, which carries an imprisonment term between five years and seven years and rotan not more than two strokes. — DayakDaily
