MIRI, Nov 27: A 38-year-old Indonesian man on Tuesday was sentenced to 40 months in jail for causing multiple wounds which led to the death of a man last year.

Kahar Sanuddin from Gangking, Bulukumba, Indonesia, pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of committing culpable homicide against Rusdi Maming, also an Indonesian.

He admitted to having committed the offence in front of workers’ quarters No. 6, Base Camp Ori Estate, Beluru in Marudi around 11pm on December 1, 2018.

The accused was unpresented while the prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Aftal Mariz Mohamed.

Sessions Court Judge Steve Ritikos when handing down the sentence said he had taken into account the reason behind the fight between the accused and the victim, and other facts of the case.

The sentence begins from the date of Kahar’s arrest on December 2, 2018.

Kahar was initially charged with murdering Rusdi.

However, when presented with the alternative charge of culpable homicide, Kahar pleaded guilty to the lesser charge. — DayakDaily
