KUCHING, Feb 4: A total of 74 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in one longhouse today, partly due to a mass gathering in the longhouse.
This was disclosed by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who further revealed that another 15 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in one other longhouse factored by the same cause.
Uggah understood the hardship of being quarantined for 14 days under a lockdown especially for the longhouses folks, but it is a must for them in order to cut the chain of Covid-19.
“So I urged to all of the longhouses folk to refrain from gathering and crowding together and should confined themselves to their ‘bilik’ in order to cut the chain of Covid-19,” he said during a daily press conference on Covid-19 development in the state, held at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) old building in Petra Jaya, today.
Uggah, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, said during a lockdown, it is important for the longhouses folks to understand that if they do not gather, then the spread of Covid-19 can be curbed.
He said everyone’s cooperation is needed at this moment, especially those in the longhouses and it really would help if they could stay put and avoid gathering.
“That is why we have the standard operating procedure (SOP) and prohibite all social activities, except for funerals throughout the state in both longhouses and Kampungs,” he added. – DayakDaily.
