KUCHING, July 3: The Ministry of Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development (MANRED) is in the process of modernising the state’s agricultural sector towards international standards.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Sarawak is rich with land but the local farmers have been engaging in subsistence farming all this while.
“We want to change this. We are going into modern commercial farming where we can increase our productivity substantially.
“We have strategic plans toward this including meeting international food safety standards so we can export to international markets,” he said in a press statement today.
Uggah noted that his ministry has been tasked by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to spearhead the state’s agriculture modernisation transformation.
“The Chief Minister also envisaged for the state to be a net exporter of food and food products by 2030,” he added. –DayakDaily.
