KUCHING, Aug 10: The Federal government has approved the construction of a new bridge across Batang Rajang in Kapit, as confirmed by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
According to a report from TV Sarawak (TVS) on Aug 9, Uggah revealed that the project is currently in its planning stage.
He stated that the decision was made after thorough discussions with Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, indicating that the project is likely to be implemented by the Federal Government.
The new Batang Rajang bridge will form part of an alternative route connecting Sibu Division with Kapit Division, providing crucial land connectivity for residents along Batang Rajang.
These residents have been affected by the cessation of express boat operations following the completion of the existing Sibu-Kapit Road in October 2021.
Nanta emphasised that the new road and bridge would significantly enhance accessibility for the local communities, offering a reliable transportation option and boosting regional development.
This development is expected to be a major infrastructure milestone for Kapit Division, improving connectivity and promoting economic growth in the region. — DayakDaily
