KUCHING, March 3: The construction of RM36 million Sungai Paku bridge project is currently at 15.8 per cent progress, says Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

According to the Deputy Premier, the project, which was a sick project six months ago, is undertaken by a rescue contractor that continued the work on May 11, 2023.

ā€œIts first contractor had failed to achieve much, causing construction to be very much behind schedule.

ā€œNow its implementation is hale and in fact has registered a current progress rate of 15.08 per cent over its schedule of 14.93 per cent,ā€ he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, after visiting the project site in Spaoh today, Uggah said he is satisfied with the development.

He also said that most of the project’s critical construction components are done and major building parts are assembled in Kuching and transported to the project site for installation.

Although the contractor is experiencing some manpower issues, he hoped they will be resolved.

ā€œThis bridge is scheduled to be completed by August 10, 2025. But I have asked the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) to discuss with the contractor for it to be completed much earlier,ā€ he added. ā€” DayakDaily
