KUCHING, Oct 18: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is confident that the agricultural sector will get a good allocation in the state Budget 2020 tabled next month.

Uggah, who is also Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development, said Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had indicated numerous times, in his speeches during events and functions, that the state is going to transform its agricultural sector to be more modern.

The chief minister also encouraged the rural folks to delve into modern farming, he added.

“There will be good news for Sarawak agriculture. The chief minister has indicated in his speeches that one of the priority areas is transforming the agriculture sector.

“I’m also praying that we (agricultural sector) will get a good budget, at the same time I’m appealing to my staff (in the ministry) to buck up and rise to the occasion because we want to make full use in spending every sen we have,” he told reporters after launching the export of “banaBee banana chips” to Guangzhao, China, by MyBanabee (M) Sdn Bhd at Senari Port here today.

Uggah said his ministry has been promoting and encouraging farmers to delve into fertigation farming because it does not need huge plots of land to implement.

“Yesterday (Oct 17) we were harvesting our golden rock melon at Rampangi, a very successful trial plot. Anyone wanting to do fertigation please send letter to me so we can assist.

“This is also as a means of diversifying your income with modern technology,” he added. — DayakDaily
