KUCHING, June 30: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) is continuing its effort to detect as many Covid-19 cases at it can as evident by the active case detection (ACD) efforts carried out at Kampung Blimbing, Bau where a total of 304 villagers were swabbed this morning.

SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said those sitting on the committee would never think to manipulate Sarawak’s daily Covid-19 new cases.

He expressed shock that there are those who have accused SDMC of manipulating the figure when yesterday’s new Covid-19 positive cases plunged to 242.

“I am truly disappointed with those who prefer to believe that SDMC is trying to manipulate the daily figure with regards to Covid-19 positive cases by not conducting any testings when the situation shows some improvement. If we have that intention at all, we would have done it long time ago, when the cases climbed to more than 700.

“But we did not. We reported whatever we received from different divisional disaster management committees across Sarawak and add up the figures and present them as they are to the public,” Uggah told DayakDaily.

Uggah who is also Deputy Chief Minister called on the public not to fall for rumours, speculations or accusations with the intention to undermine the efforts of the government.

“We have been working hard to bring down the number of Covid-19 cases, even at the expense of economic growth. Reject all these damaging rumours or accusations as they do nothing but prolong this difficult time.

“We want to flatten the Covid-19 curve and open the economy as fast as we can, that is our only goal. So help us by rejecting all the unkind speculated rumours that bring nothing good to the table,” said Uggah.
