KUCHING, Oct 17: UBS Singapore has expressed interest in Sarawak’s strong potential to attract clean energy-based investments and major infrastructure projects and will study how they can bring in more investors to participate in the State’s economic development, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari.

Speaking to TVS after a meeting with UBS in Singapore on Thursday (Oct 16), Abang Johari quoted a UBS fund manager who noted that investors now view Sarawak as an economic powerhouse showing positive growth and stability within Malaysia, making it an attractive destination for long-term investment.

“They now understand Sarawak’s energy direction and investment future, including in gas-based industries and infrastructure. UBS will study how it can bring in more investors to participate in the State’s economic development, which has a bright future,” he said.

On the meeting, he said it was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen relations with the international investment community, particularly in the energy and infrastructure development sectors.

“I met with the management and several strategic partners of UBS to discuss Sarawak’s development direction, including our strengths as an energy-based economy.

“In addition, we want to build good relations with investors so that they will establish factories in Sarawak,” he said.

He added that the meeting also served as a platform to provide updates and explore new opportunities, as UBS, being a global fund manager, has the expertise and broad investor network to assess potential investment returns in Sarawak.
