KUCHING, April 19: Following the response of Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii over unfinished work at a U-turn at the Pan Borneo–Jakar Highway CH43+600 site, JKR Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak has accelerated and completed the project on April 18.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Huang had requested for the U-turn to be expanded and that it be built with premix at the site during his earlier visit to the said site.

In addition, Huang also visited the CH42+500 site on the same highway, which has been completed and can be used by the public to enter and leave Jakar town.

Sarikei Branch Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth Leader, Andrew Wong Pak Ung, on Huang’s behalf, visited the Pan Borneo–Jakar Highway CH43+600 site recently.

He explained that an expanded U-turn was needed because the current size had a huge negative impact on road users, especially heavy vehicles because junction width is less than 20 feet.

“It’s not suitable for heavy vehicles getting in and out and makes it difficult for them to turn left.”

Earlier, Kapitan Ling Dien Yong represented Huang at a school shoes donation event at SMK St Anthony, Sarikei.

Ling, who read out Huang’s speech text, said that the shoe donation would motivate students at the start of the school year.

“At least they have extra school shoes to wear and maybe next year their parents won’t need to buy more school shoes,” he said. — DayakDaily
