KUCHING, July 21: Sarawak’s strong post-pandemic recovery is propelling the State towards becoming a global player in the green energy and digital sectors, a progress made possible through close cooperation between the government, private sector, and the people, said Head of State (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in his Sarawak Day 2025 message.

Wan Junaidi praised the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for steering the State’s transformation through the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

He highlighted the strategy’s focus on digital economic growth, renewable energy development including green hydrogen, bioeconomy, and investments in education and innovation.

“Sarawak’s economy has shown strong resilience after the pandemic and is now ready to leap forward onto the global stage in green energy and digital sectors.

“This progress would not be possible without close cooperation between the government, the private sector, and the people.

“The government sets policies and builds infrastructure, the private sector drives investments, and the people support the State’s development aspirations,” he said.

Wan Junaidi also described July 22, 1963, as a significant symbol of Sarawak’s identity and its people.

“On that day, the British colonial administration agreed to establish a ‘self-government’ in Sarawak, appointing Stephen Kalong Ningkan (Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan) as the Chief Minister and allowing him to form his own Cabinet to take over the administration from the British.

“This event marked a crucial first step in Sarawak’s journey towards joining the formation of Malaysia alongside Sabah, Singapore, and Malaya.

“The handover of power occurred prior to Sarawak’s official entry into the Federation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963,” he noted, adding that the event marked the beginning of Sarawak’s identity as a sovereign state within the Federation.

“We remember the early pioneers such as Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan and Dato Sri Tawi Sli who played an important role in shaping our own administration.”

Wan Junaidi also extended his gratitude to former Chief Ministers, the late Tun Datuk Patinggi Abdul Rahman Ya’kub, the late Tun Pehin Sri Dr Abdul Taib Mahmud, and the late Pehin Sri Tan Sri Adenan Satem, for their lasting contributions to Sarawak’s development.

He further called on all Sarawakians to stay united and work hand in hand with the government and private sector to build a more glorious future for the State.

He also urged that the spirit of unity and harmony be upheld, as it serves as the foundation of Sarawak’s stability and progress.

“May this Sarawak Day 2025 ignite a deeper love for our State and inspire us to move forward with greater confidence and unity.” — DayakDaily
