KUCHING, April 21: Sarawak has become the role model of Malaysia for being a region where diversity can be celebrated in peace.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said this in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message today, lauding the region’s uniqueness, which all Sarawakians should be proud of.
At the same time, he urged, Sarawakians should avoid being influenced by extremists who intend to divide the various races and religions.
“Sarawak has also become a role model because we are the only region in the country to have established the Unit for Other Religions, or Unifor, to sincerely take care of the needs of both Muslims and non-Muslims.
“We should all be proud of what we have. Meanwhile, we must appreciate and preserve this unique treasure, which is the spirit of unity of Sarawakians of various races and religions.
“The harmony that we all strive for can be seen through close cooperation between all races, whether in terms of socio-economics, politics, or in our public service.
“Therefore, I hope that the spirit of unity and harmony of the people of Sarawak will continue to be maintained well enough so that we can progress towards 2030,” Taib said.
Taib also urged all levels of society to stay united under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg towards a better Sarawak.
He said Abang Johari successfully led Sarawak through the Covid-19 outbreak and now the Cabinet is developing Sarawak into a high-income region by 2030.
“With that, I am very confident that by 2030, we will be able to achieve the high-income status where Sarawakians can enjoy high incomes, better lives, and greater health services through the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” said Taib. — DayakDaily
