KUCHING, May 11: Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has called on members of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) to uphold the sanctity and dignity of the august House by conducting debates in a mature and responsible manner.
In delivering his opening address at the first meeting of the fifth term of the 19th DUS today, he reminded the elected representatives to use proper and courteous language when expressing their views.
He said this is to set a good example and serve as positive role models to society, especially the younger generation who are constantly observing the behaviour and speech of leaders.
“It has long been the practice in our country’s democratic system, including in Sarawak, for elected representatives to serve as the link between the government and the people.
“Therefore, Honourable Members must always remain close to the people in order to understand the pulse and real needs of society so that the government can receive accurate feedback and ensure that every policy and development implemented truly benefits the rakyat,” he said.
Wan Junaidi then called for everyone to continue working together to develop Sarawak into a progressive, prosperous, peaceful and respected region, without neglecting the values of unity, harmony, morality, and noble character, while ensuring that the wellbeing of the people must always be prioritised.
“May Sarawak continue to be blessed with peace, stability and prosperity for the wellbeing of both present and future generations,” he said, while also extending Hari Raya Aidiladha and Gawai Dayak wishes. — DayakDaily
