KUCHING, May 5: The Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi today paid their last respects to the late James Alexander Ritchie, a veteran journalist, at a funeral service held at St Thomas’ Cathedral, Jalan McDougall here.
Their arrival at the cathedral at 10am was received by the late Ritchie’s wife Helen Tan, daughter Rebekah, brother George, as well as close family members and friends.
Wan Junaidi described the passing of the veteran journalist and historian as a great loss to Sarawak, particularly in the fields of journalism and historical documentation.
“This morning was supposed to be a meeting between us to discuss a manuscript we were working on together. But God’s will has surpassed all human plans. What was meant to be the beginning of a new chapter is now the closing of a life’s journey,” he said in a statement issued afterwards.
Expressing deep sorrow, Wan Junaidi remembered Ritchie as a dedicated, visionary, and committed individual who passionately documented important stories for the benefit of future generations.
He and Toh Puan also extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that they be granted strength and fortitude in this difficult time of loss. — DayakDaily
