TYT and CM to grace National Day celebration in Bandar Simanggang

KUCHING, Aug 28: Sarawak Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib will be the guests of honour at the state level National Day celebration which will be held in Bandar Simanggang, Sri Aman.

According to Sri Aman assemblyman Datuk Franchis Harden Hollis, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg and Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang are also expected to attend the “Malaysia Prihatin” themed National Day celebration this year.

“The event will start in the evening of August 30, with the “Malam Mesra Ambang Sambutan Hari Kebangsaan” programme to be held at the Sri Simanggang Hotel.

“That evening will see cultural and other entertaining performances by members of the Sarawak Arts Council and locals from Sri Aman, and the presentation of letters of appointments to community leaders by His Excellency and the Chief Minister,” he said in a press statement today.

Harden, who is also the Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Assistant Minister, noted that a total of 250 people are invited to the event in compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) in view of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

He added that the following morning on August 31, the TYT and Chief Minister and the rest of the dignitaries are expected to participate in the “Unity Walk” programme starting from the Sri Aman Civic Centre at 9am.

“The 2.5km  walk will see about 250 people of various races and backgrounds donning their traditional attire walking together to showcase racial  unity. The walk will pass through the town centre, the waterfront and back  to the civic centre.

“Before the walk, a special video presentation titled ‘wira’ will be shown after a speech by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. Then the Chief Minister will address the participants before His Excellency performs the flag off,” he said. –DayakDaily.
