KUCHING. Nov 8: “Two wrongs don’t make a right”, Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak member Michael Kong has told Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, in a recent spat involving the use of political party logos in school-related events.
Kong was responding to a statement by Yap questioning the fuss over Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) logo in medals given out at school events when DAP did the same for Perak schools whereby its vice chairman Nga Kor Ming had on Aug 23 indicated there was no issue so long as the schools benefited.
To this, Kong, who is the special assistant to DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, clarified that two days after Nga’s incident and his “no issue” statement, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had emphasised that political party symbols should not be used when distributing government aid because such assistance was a government initiative and not a political one.
“Thus, it is essential for Wilfred Yap to realise that revisiting the matter involving Nga Kor Ming is misguided since there haven’t been any such incidents following the Prime Minister’s directive regarding the use of party symbols for government aid distribution.
“Furthermore, it is vital to remind Wilfred Yap of the age-old English proverb, ‘two wrongs don’t make a right’. This means that someone else’s misconduct doesn’t justify or excuse similar behaviour,” he said in a statement today.
Kong pointed out that elected representatives must remember that their credibility and the reputation of their political parties are built on genuine hard work and serving the best interests of the people.
Therefore, he urged Yap to own up his missteps instead of defending indefensible actions and to take responsibility for his conduct. — DayakDaily
