Two Sarawakians appointed as Dewan Negara senators

KUCHING, March 20: Sarawak’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy chairman Abun Sui Anyit and former Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate for Sarikei, Roderick Wong Siew Lead, were among 16 persons who were appointed Dewan Negara senators today.

The two Sarawakians and the 14 other new faces were sworn in before Dewan Negara Speaker Tan Sri Dato Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim.

Of the total, five new senators appointed by the State Assemblies (DUN) are Kedah’s Abdul Nasir Idris and Musodak Ahmad, Penang’s Dr Lingeshwaran R. Arunasalam and Amir Ghazali, as well as Terengganu’s Hussin Ismail.


Meanwhile, the 11 other senators are appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong effective March 20, 2023.

Apart from Abun Sui and Wong, the remaining senators are Dato Sri Anifah Aman@Haniff Amman, Isaiah D Jacob, Manolan Mohamad (reappointed), Tan Sri Dato Low Kian Chuan, Prof Datuk Seri Dr Awang Sariyan, Datuk Wira Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli, Dato Sivaraj Chandran, Mohd Hasbie Muda, and Noorita Sual.

According to a media release issued by the Malaysian Parliament today, Rais, in his speech, said the appointment of 16 new faces would bring up the total number of Dewan Negara members to 64. — DayakDaily
