KUCHING, Oct 13: Michael Mujah Lihan has been re-elected by the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUNS) as a senator to represent Sarawak in the Dewan Negara for a second term.
All assemblypersons present voted in favour of his re-election following a motion to renominate him tabled by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and seconded by Minister in the Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai.
In tabling the motion in DUNS Sitting today, Uggah said Michael Mujah was first elected to the Dewan Negara on Dec 11, 2023, for a three-year term ending on Dec 10, 2026.
He said his re-election was necessary in view of the expiry of his current term and in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Constitution.
Uggah said Michael Mujah had extensive experience in government administration, political leadership and community development.
“Before his appointment as a senator, Michael Mujah served as political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak from 2016 to 2023.
“During his first term in the Dewan Negara, he had gained experience in parliamentary affairs and in carrying out his responsibilities as Sarawak’s representative at the federal level,” he said.
He added that the experience would provide a strong foundation for Michael Mujah to continue raising issues concerning the development, welfare and interests of the people of Sarawak.
Uggah also said Michael Mujah’s background in government administration, political leadership and community engagement would be valuable in carrying out his responsibilities as a senator.
He said a second term would allow Michael Mujah to build on the experience gained during his first tenure and continue contributing to Sarawak and the nation.
“Based on his background, experience and record of service, I hereby propose that Michael Mujah Lihan be re-elected as a member of the Dewan Negara for a second term,” Uggah said.
Michael Mujah, who was present in the sitting, also expressed in a written letter dated Dec 10, 2026, to confirm his willingness to serve as senator if reelected. — DayakDaily
