KUCHING, Jan 1: What began as a routine parking stop along Jalan Datuk Wee Khieng Chiang ended with a Mitsubishi Pajero vanishing without a trace, and two men now in police custody.

Kuching District Police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said a 48-year-old local man lodged a report on Dec 28, 2025, after discovering that his Pajero, which he had parked in the area, was missing.

Initial investigations pointed to two unknown men believed to have carried out the theft using a Proton X50.

Acting on intelligence, a team from the Kuching District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) tracked down and arrested two local men, aged between 51 and 58, in two separate operations on Dec 30 — one in Taman Hui Sing here and the other in Kota Samarahan.

“Investigators later confirmed that both suspects were involved in the case.

“Checks on their backgrounds revealed that the duo were no strangers to the law, with past criminal records including offences linked to vehicle theft,” Alexson said in a statement today.

Police also seized several items believed to be connected to the case to assist further investigations.

Urine screening tests showed one of the suspects tested positive for amphetamine/methamphetamine, while the other was found to be drug-free.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between one and seven years, and may also include a fine.

Alexson further reminded the public to remain vigilant and to strengthen the security of their vehicles, urging immediate reporting of any suspicious activity.

Those with information related to the case may contact the nearest police station, the Kuching IPD Control Centre at 082-244444, or the investigating officer, Sgt Mohammad Azril Morshidi, at 019-8183841. – DayakDaily
