Two men remanded over Miri kindergarten break-in

MIRI, March 19: Two men yesterday were remanded for five days until March 23 by the Magistrates Court here for breaking into a kindergarten in Desa Murni Bandar Baru Permyjaya.

The remand order was meted out by Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad.

Initially, the prosecuting officer, Inspector Hileary Kimon, applied for seven days’ remand.

Items worth more than RM4,000, including electronic items were reported missing following the intrusion that occurred on the morning of March 12 (Thursday).

According to the case fact sheet, the break-in was discovered by the kindergarten’s principal around 7am when she saw the main door was ajar.

The duo, aged 19 and 22, both locals, were detained by the police by the roadside in Promin Senadin yesterday around 2.30am.

Prior to the arrests, the police had stopped the car that they were in. Upon further inspection, the police found that the car was laden with items reported stolen from the kindergarten.

The offence is being probed under Section 457 of the Penal Code for break-in which carries a maximum of 14 years’ imprisonment. ā€” DayakDaily
