Two men interrogated over viral street brawl near Padungan roundabout

KUCHING, Aug 31: Police are questioning two men following a street brawl near the Padungan roundabout that went viral on social media yesterday (Aug 30).

Kuching District Police chief Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed that the Sekama Police Station received two reports related to the incident, which occurred around 2.10pm.

“Further investigation found that the reports were connected to a 43-second viral video clip circulating in social media, showing two local men fighting near Jalan Padungan.

“Acting on information, a team of police from the Kuching headquarters locayed the two individuals and conducted investigation around 4pm the same day,” he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code for committing affray, which refers to a public fight that disturbs the peace.

If found guilty, the offense is punishable by up to six months’ imprisonment or a fine up to RM1,000, or both.

Police are appealing to the public and any witnesses to come forward with information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.

Mohd Farhan also advised the public not to take matters into their own hands, emphasising that traffic offenses and other disputes should be reported to the police for lawful action.
