Two killed in two road accidents along Jln Bintulu-Miri

MIRI, Dec 9: Two tragic accidents claimed two lives on Sunday (Dec 8) in Miri.

The accidents were confirmed by Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu.

The first accident occurred around 4.30pm involving a Proton Iswara and a motorcycle on Jalan Bintulu-Miri.

According to police investigations, the Proton Iswara, driven by a 50-year-old man, made a P-turn when it was struck by an oncoming motorcycle ridden by a 31-year-old woman.

The impact left the motorcyclist with severe head injuries.

Despite urgent medical attention at Miri Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries at 8.50pm.

The authorities are now piecing together the sequence of events to determine any potential breaches of traffic laws.

The second accident occurred at around 5.30pm along KM805.1 of Jalan Miri-Bintulu.

A Proton Pesona, driven by a 52-year-old man, collided with a pedestrian attempting to cross the road.

Investigators revealed that the driver spotted the pedestrian in time to slow down, but the victim abruptly turned back onto the road, leaving no time for evasive action.

The 41-year-old pedestrian suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was unharmed.

Both accidents are under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
