Two killed after car crashes into drain along Jalan Sungai Bidut, Sibu

SIBU, July 29: A 46-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and crashed into a roadside drain along Jalan Sungai Bidut here this afternoon.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sungai Merah responded to the emergency at 2.48pm, with personnel immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the vehicle inside the roadside drain with both victims still trapped inside.

Firefighters used rescue tools and stretchers to remove the victims from the vehicle before handing them over to Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) personnel who were already at the scene.

The victims were subsequently confirmed dead by MOH personnel.

The vehicle was later pulled out of the drain with the assistance of an excavator operating near the accident location.

The operation, led by PBK I Mohamad Faizal Bujang, was brought under control at 3.33pm and concluded at 4.13pm after the area was deemed safe. — DayakDaily
