SIBU, Aug 2: A 25-year-old male driver and a 35-year-old male passenger were killed after their car collided with a 40-tonne trailer near Sungai Arip junction along Jalan Sibu-Tatau today.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said its operation centre received a distress call at 4.05pm and a team from Tatau fire station was swiftly despatched to the scene.
Upon reaching the accident site, the emergency response team confirmed two fatalities. Both were found within the wreckage of a Perodua Bezza car.
Paramedics on-site corroborated the discovery.
The firefighters promptly initiated efforts to extract the victims from the vehicle, necessitating the careful removal of a section of the car’s structure.
Subsequently, the deceased individuals were handed over to the police team from Mukah to facilitate further procedures.
The firefighters also undertook flushing operations at the site to clear away debris and ensure the safety of other road users travelling in the area. — DayakDaily
