Two funeral clusters spark double-digit new infections

KUCHING, Mar 10: Two clusters of Covid-19 related to funeral services namely the Gelong Cluster in Kapit and the Emperoh Jambu Cluster in Kuching reported double digits new cases today.

According to a statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the Gelong Cluster reported 26 new Covid-19 cases while the Emperoh Jambu Cluster reported 25 new cases of coronavirus.


With extra 25 new cases identified from the Emperoh Jambu Cluster, the tally for confirmed cases has risen to 262 people.

A total of 272 individuals related to the cluster are still awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test while 1,400 individuals have been screened for Covid-19 and 866 individuals tested negative.

As for the Gelong Cluster, the 26 new infections have pushed the tally of positive cases for the cluster to 236.

In the meantime, there are currently 26 active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak and out of that, six clusters reported new cases including the Gelong and Emperoh Jambu clusters.

Other active clusters which reported new cases include the Melor Cluster, a new Covid-19 in Pusa which registered 13 new cases, the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster in Betong which was related to cockfighting and reported six new cases, Jalan Green Cluster witnessed two new cases and the Buloh Cluster in Selangau which registered one new case.

The other 20 active clusters of Covid-19 that did not report new cases include the Prison Cluster at Jalan Awang in Sibu, the paddy harvesting cluster, Bukit Tunggal in Julau, Jalan Ho Pin Cluster in Samarahan, Kampung Sungai Bakong (Meradong), Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster (Kuching), Kejatau Cluster (Sri Aman), Jan Yong Cluster (Kapit), Geronggang Cluster (Sibu), Mas Merah Cluster (Sibu), Univista Cluster (Samarahan), Kidurong Dua Cluster (Bintulu), Nanga Lijan Cluster (Julau), Seruas Cluster (Beluru), Sebangkoi Cluster (Sri Aman), Jun Heng Cluster (Bintulu), Bintang Daily Cluster (Meradong), Jalan Pengiran Cluster (Matu), Tabong Cluster (Bau), Rakut Cluster (Miri) and Pasai Cluster (Sibu). —DayakDaily
