Two detainees rescued during Belaga police station fire

KUCHING, Dec 14: Two detainees at Belaga police station were rescued during a fire which razed the building to the ground this afternoon.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue (Bomba) operation centre in a statement today, said the incident occurred at 1pm, and four Volunteer Fire and Rescue Force (PBS) Belaga personnel rushed to the location, before the arrival of firefighters from Belaga fire station.

According to the statement, PBS Belaga team who responded to the incident brought together a water pump and fire extinguisher equipment in an effort to put out the flames by utilising the fire hydrant located at the station.

ā€œThe incident occurred during windy conditions and under hot weather, which cause the fire to quickly spread throughout the building.

ā€œFirefighters from Bintulu fire station arrived at the location at around 5.27pm, after a four-hour trip using the logging roads in order to avoid traffic congestion, immediately conducted an inspection of the scene, and proceeded to put out the remaining flames completely.

The statement noted, Bintulu firefighters concluded that the building was completely destroyed in the incident after an assessment and only the station’s cell concrete structure still remains.

ā€œA full investigation will be carried out tomorrow (Dec 15) by the forensic team from Bomba Sarawak headquarters together with Bomba Bintulu and a K9 unit to ascertain the cause of the incident,ā€ it said in the statement.

The operation was also joined by the Civil Defence Forces (APM), People’s Volunteers Corp (Rela) and members of the public and the operation ended at 6.50pm. ā€” DayakDaily
