Two couples detained for khalwat

MIRI, July 22: Two unmarried couples were nabbed for alleged khalwat in raids conducted by Sarawak Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS) and Pujut Residents’ Committee (RC Pujut) on the eve of Sarawak Independence Day.

Those arrested were in their 20’s to 30’s.

The raids were held around Miri and involved a total 28 RC Pujut members and four enforcement officers from JAIS.

Amongst locations covered were Kuala Miri and several spots within the city centre.

The two unmarried couples were detained in the first raid which was held at Kuala Miri.

They were held for questioning under Section 24 of the Syariah Criminal Offence Ordinance 2001 for committing khalwat or close proximity. — DayakDaily
