Two badly injured after car rams into teenage cyclists

The teenagers were riding along Jalan Kampung Baru when two of them got struck by a vehicle.

KOTA SAMARAHAN, Nov 30: Three teenage cyclists suffered injuries and two others were unharmed after a car struck the group at Jalan Kampung Baru here yesterday.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief, Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, said the five teenagers, aged between 14 and 16, were riding on their bicycles along the road when two of them got struck by a vehicle in the 2.55pm incident.

“Early investigation found that a sedan car was heading towards Kota Samarahan from the Farley supermarket area and the driver saw the teenagers riding on their bike.


“The driver lost control of the vehicle and hit two of the cyclists, which resulted in them badly injured. The incident also saw another cyclist sustain minor injuries,” said Alexson in a statement.

He noted that the other two cyclists, who were riding at the front of the group, escaped unharmed.

The two badly injured victims were sent to the Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.

Police also have visited the scene of the incident to probe the case and taking statements from witnesses.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
