Two arrested in Sarawak for possessing, accessing child pornography

KUCHING, Dec 20: Sarawak police have arrested two male suspects for allegedly accessing websites and storing child pornography videos on their mobile phones in separate cases in Bintulu and Miri.

Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mancha Ata revealed that the incidents were uncovered during investigations conducted in April and November 2024.

“The suspects were detained after police received information linking them to the offenses in the respective districts.

“The cases are being investigated under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which criminalises accessing and possessing materials related to the sexual exploitation of children,” he said in a statement today.

Under Section 10 of the Act, individuals convicted of such offenses can face imprisonment of up to five years, a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both.

Mancha also urged the public to refrain from browsing, accessing, or storing child pornography or materials involving the sexual exploitation of children, emphasising that these actions are serious criminal offenses.

He further encouraged members of the public to report any information related to such activities to aid police investigations. — DayakDaily
