MIRI, Dec 6: A 30-year-old man is now in police custody after he tried to swindle an 18-year-old student of RM300 but failed to make his escape, not once but twice.
The incident unfolded when the student agreed to buy a motorcycle lamp from the suspect for RM300. The deal was clinched over social media and they agreed to meet on Tuesday (Dec 4) at Pujut Corner.
When the suspect showed up at the agreed meeting place on a motorcycle at 1.28am, the student, who went to the area with a friend, handed over the agreed RM300, but there was no motorcycle lamp. The suspect then attempted to flee the scene on the motorcycle, but he failed when he skidded and fell.
According to sources, the student and his friend quickly grabbed hold of the suspect with the intention of sending him to the police station.
It is understood that they put him on the back seat of their car, and that led to more ‘drama’.
In trying to escape, the suspect somehow managed to get into the driver’s seat and again tried to flee the scene with the car.
The student and his friend managed to overpower him, but as a result of the struggles, the front and rear ends of the car were damaged. — DayakDaily
