KUCHING, July 23: The ongoing Sarawak Initiative (TSI) Leadership Programme provides an opportunity for aspiring and current leaders to acquire more knowledge and learn from the experts on issues that are important for leaders to lead a nation.

According to TSI chairman Datuk John Tenewi Nuek, it is important for aspiring and current leaders to take this opportunity to register for this unprecedented TSI Leadership Programme where more than 30 lecturers have come together under a single platform to deliver their knowledge and analysis.

He pointed out that the world is moving and changing at lightning speed in an unbridled manner, caused by the development in arts, literature, economics, science and technology and more as well as the increasing and intense competition in the economic and trade areas.

“A number of countries are already seriously exploring outer space and a few have even landed spacecraft on Mars. This shows how far the human race has progressed. In fact, we are being left behind even by several Asian countries with whom we were of similar economic standing in the 1960s and 1970s.

“We cannot afford to be complacent and take things for granted any more. We need effective leaders to advance forward; and we need to create leaders with wide breadth of knowledge, high level of competency and unquestionable integrity who dare to dream and take whatever measures necessary to advance us forward to a state that we will all be proud of,” he said during a virtual launching ceremony of TSI Leadership Programme, yesterday (July 22).

Tenewi noted, TSI also dreams to build a State that is free, united, multi-racial, secular, clean and holistically developed with growth accompanied by equitability and social justice.

He said it is with this spirit and hope in building a better Sarawak that TSI is putting up this Leadership Programme.

“To make the Programme be as interesting, exciting as well as fun for every participant TSI has chosen a wide array of topics to be covered.

“These include topics on education, economics, principles of government, religious liberty, combating corruption, gender equality, judiciary system, foreign policy and more,” he added.

The TSI Leadership Programme will be running until March 2022 with the presence of the lecturers as well as more than 300 participants who have registered for the programme.

There will be 36 lectures delivered by prominent lecturers and the inaugural lecture on “Past, Present and Future Political Landscape in Sarawak” was presented by Professor Dr James Chin, a professor of Asian Studies and Inaugural Director of the Asia Institute Tasmania, University of Tasmania.

The second lecture on “The Special Position of Sabah and Sarawak under the Federal Constitution” will be on this Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 2.30pm and will be delivered by Professor Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi, the emeritus professor of Law at the University of Malaya.

The third lecture on “Overriding Effects of Emergency Laws over the Federal and State Constitution” will be presented on July 31, 2021 by Dato Sri J C Fong who is the Sarawak Government legal advisor and representing the Sarawak Government in cases before the Appellate Courts and High Court. –DayakDaily.
