KUCHING, Sept 24: Have you ever tried ice cream made with Sarawak’s iconic terung Dayak (also known as terung asam)?
If you love ice cream and have never tasted this flavour, it is worthwhile heading over to Sarawak Agrofest 2023 at Dataran Perayaan in Petra Jaya, which is being held from now until Oct 1.
The product which is sold under the brand name of Kun Tai ice cream is among products made from terung asam sold by RFM Global Corporation Sdn Bhd, which has set up a stall at the festival under the Agrotrade section.
According to one of the stall staff, Ranizah Rahbi, the terung Dayak ice cream is sold at RM2.50 per cone while a large portion (plastic cup) is sold for RM8 and a small portion is priced at RM4.
Ranizah said they have been making ice cream since 2021.
“We hope people love our local ice cream made from the well-known brinjal, and I believe not many people have tried it,” she told DayakDaily when met recently.
“To enhance the flavour of the terung asam ice cream, we add syrup and dried terung asam candy dice to it,’ she added.
Apart from terung asam ice cream, they also have gula apong ice cream made from the local palm syrup.
Ranizah said the festival will further help the company with the production of products made from local Sarawak produce for a bigger market.
Ranizah said the company had also produced other products using terung assam such as jam, candy and spicy sauce, adding the company has had these products made from terong asam since 2010.
“Our participation at the festival will definitely help us with promoting our products. We thank the government for this festival to help small companies like us,” said Ranizah. — DayakDaily
